Inland Power
Plants
Capper-Nickel
Stainless Steel
For more lhan two decades,
Valtimet has supplied welded
stainless steel and
copper-nickel condenser tubes to
inland power generating stations
worldwide. Through our long-term
relationships with power station
engineers and constructors,
equipment manufacturers and
utilities, we have gained
unequalled expertise in
manufacturing tubing for nuclear
and fossil fuel power plants.
Today, because of our advanced
welding technologies, extensive
product selection, vast
experience, and customer
commitment, the power generation
industry recognizes Valtimet as
the world leader in welded
tubes.
Nuclear Power
Plants
Austenitic
and Ferritic Stainless
Steel
For nuclear power generating
stations cooled by uncontaminated
water ot cooling towers,
Valtimet supplies austenitic and
ferritic stainless steel welded
tubes. Utilities worldwide have
switched from copper alloys to
these materials to avoid
propagation of copper ions in
the steam generators and to
allow greater circulation
speeds.
Saltwater
Cooled Power Plants
Titanium
Valtimet pioneered the
manufacture and application of
titanium welded tubes for
surface condensers to allow
power stations to use seawater
or brackish river water as the
cooling medium. Titanium's
unique, naturally occurring
oxide film makes it impervious
to chloride ion attack. This
corrosion immunity, in
conjunction with its relatively
high thermal conductivity, makes
titanium the material of choice
for seawater use. Titanium is
also specified without a
corrosion allowance, resulting
in thinner tube walls that increase
thermal efficiency and flow
rates.
Saltwater
corrosion Resistant Tubing
Valtimet's
specialty welded tubular
products, supported by the sales
consortium with Poongsan,
satisfy many application
requirements for the water
purification and desalination
industries. Evaporative
processes such as multi-stage
flash desalination demand tubing
that resists saltwater corrosion
at elevated temperatures.
Valtimet's welded titanium tubes
easily meet these criteria.
Titanium is impervious to
chloride ion attack and permits
the inevitable salt buildup in
the tubing to be flushed with
the sea water. These tubes offer
maintenance-free, long life with
the advantage of low initial
Desalination plant structural
cost due to titanium's light
weight. For low temperature, low
pressure environments,
Valtimet's welded copper-nickel
or austenitic stainless steel
tubes are a cost-effective
alternative.
Welded Tubing
for Corrosive, High-Temperature
Environments
Titanium's
resistance to moist chlorine gas
and chloride-containing
solutions is the basis for a
myriad of applications. Titanium
is often the beat choice in
these environments on a life
cycle cost basis because its
inherent corrosion resistance
prolongs equipment life,
reducing maintenance and
enhancing plant performance.
Valtimet tubing is widely used
in chlor-alkali cells,
terephthalic acid production,
bleaching equipment, heat
exchangers, and piping for
organic intermediates. We
produce titanium tubing in a
wide variety of diameters, wall thicknesses
and Grades including Ti-Pd,
which offers enhanced corrosion
resistance to organic acids over
traditional, unalloyed Grade 2
titanium. Valtimet also
manufactures duplex stainless
steel and special grades for
industrial processing
applications.
